Huang Pei
The Art of Cultural Diplomacy:
Deconstructing Parameters of Soft Power in Global
Peace Dialogues
Huang Pei is a researcher and cultural curator for the Nanjing city government. In this role, she leads an interdisciplinary team to scale visionary projects aimed at reshaping the image of Nanjing, moving it away from the shadow of war trauma toward a peaceful outlook. As the honorary director of Nanjing Red Mountain Forest Zoo, she has brought together participants from diverse fields during the pandemic to examine how the intersection of eco-art and design can drive the transformation of Red Mountain into a sustainable urban forest park. Through her efforts working with government, NGOs, universities, and the private sectors, she initiates Red Mountain Ecocreation, which aims to build a collaborative network that connects local governance with cross-cultural conversations in public welfare, business, policy, academia, and communication in response to the emerging complex social issues of the city.

Queen Margrethe II Unveiled the Bernhard Arp Sindberg Statue in Aarhus
Image
A memento presented to the Queen, emerges from a 600-year-old Ming Dynasty city wall brick, bearing the revered inscription of Nanjing's ancient name, "Jinling." The artwork was retrieved after extensive searches by several devoted Nanjing citizens, who scoured the city wall for several months.
Image
The artwork melds the city wall’s protective essence with Sindberg's guardianship over the citizens of Nanjing, symbolically reimagined through the local purple orchid, the emblem of peace in Nanjing, and the yellow rose, cultivated in Aarhus, Sindberg’s hometown.
