A Thesis, or Digressions on Sculptural Practice

My practice consists of sculptures, installations, processes, and algorithms rooted in scientific research, philosophical inquiries, and material exploration. I draw from my background in mathematics and technology as a foundation for a system of overlapping analogies that tease at the relationship between logic, consciousness, perception, identity, and the body.

This piece investigates our relationship with the technologies we create and the forces of the cosmos that we have yet to understand. By exploring cosmic rays as a catalyst for disruption and decay, I hope to challenge these assumptions and create a modern-day memento mori.

Turing pattern describes how a mathematical equation can be used to explain patterns found on animals.
In the current increasingly polarized socio-political climate, I find myself caught paralyzed between issues very large and very small. So I used the Turing pattern to create a camouflage for myself to hide out.

Through Flatland to Thoughtland

Titled after the Square’s treatise in “Flatland”, this piece explores the limitations of our perception that is limited by our cultural, social, political, and physical frameworks that we inhabit.

I created bedding in a traditional Korean style of patchwork known as “Jogakbo”, which were created using left-over fabrics, to explore how quantum theory challenges our perception of linear timeline. How we perceive time is dependent on our memories, which is pivotal in the formation of our identity.
