Thesis Statement
Upholstery is the dress for furniture. As apparel for humans, upholstery has the power to shape the identity of furniture. By changing different upholsteries, furniture will have fresh identities that bring vitality to both the furniture itself and the surrounding environment. And during the process of changing “cloth” for furniture, people will build a deeper relationship with the furniture they already have.
About Dress Your Chair Collection
What is the reason for throwing away a chair? The style does not fit in the room anymore? Or the upholstery is broken? The idea of the Dress Your Chair project is to design a series of removable upholstery works for common home products, such as the IKEA ADDE Chair, and ARD Floor Lamp, which are accessible and easy to assemble. The upholstery can be put on and taken off as easily as apparel for humans. During the process of changing apparel for our furniture, we build closer relationships with the things we already have.

The Dress Your Chair upholstery series includes three sets of foam undergarments with various densities and forms, and four sets of “apparel” inspired by four different seasons: spring dress, summer beach suit, autumn jumpsuit, and winter Teddy coat. Undergarments are mainly made up of foam, providing enough support and comfort for an enjoyable seating experience.

The summer collection is a little bit different from others. Inspired by the beach holiday in summer, Cane and natural raffia are used instead of foam and fabric, bringing a natural, relaxed, and lightweight feeling to the chair and space.
