Roni Weiss

Roni Weiss Work

My work lies in the slippages between installation, sculpture, and performance. I explore mundane rituals and notions of care, what it means to be a body in the world. I examine the relationships between social structures to our body's functionality and productivity. Exploring undercurrents in contemporary society, conflating hierarchies between playful objects and materials to disintegration and dystopian realities/futures.

Harkening to Surrealism and Arte Povera, I examine relations between unlikely pairings of objects and materials. I combine industrial materials and mechanisms together with organic materials such as eggs, wine, and human hair. By doing so, I examine ways of losing control in the making process, reflecting upon the process of entropy. My sculptures are “error makers,” “dysfunctional,” they revolt against their initial task, often leaving stains and traces around them. Slow sculptures that drip, stain, and spread, sculptures on the verge of collapse. Conflating hierarchies between playful objects and materials allude to the disintegration of reality and dystopian realities/futures.
