The First Gate
I’m a Hmong, Chinese, American artist working primarily in painting. Through my work, I explore personal narratives. This exploration emerges from engagement with my subconscious, where meditation and embodied research become tools to unearth and articulate the imagine. Through digital painting and techniques, this imagery first materializes on screen, then transitions onto canvas, reflecting the fragmented and reconstructive nature of identity in a digital era, an age propelled by online personas and simulacra.
My current focus involves the experience of fragmented identities that traverse the domains of the physical, spiritual, and digital. A central element in my work is the depiction of the female nude, rendered in vibrant colors to highlight form and essence. Through this figure, I navigate and express themes of gender, race, and power, examining how these forces manifest and move through various spaces.
