Textiles

Image

A tired student reclines on brown bags by stairs with a metal railing. They are wearing headphones, rubber gloves, a dye-splattered lab coat, and a respirator mask.

Our community has been thinking about spaces they move through like hallways, studios, classrooms and gardens that have been historically considered places of labor and learning to exist as places where we live, breathe, learn together, teach each other, weave, knit, print, dye, grow plants, harvest, felt, embroider, rest, sleep, deal with traumas, make friends, find comfort, paint, draw, experiment, inspire and challenge each other, build tools, hack equipment, invent technologies, research, dream, dig, write poetry, put things in repeat, formulate colors and communicate. How do we reimagine and renew where and how we gather in care and collaboration to make a space for people to form community and nourish ideas?

Faculty work closely with both graduate and undergraduate students to encourage the development of a personal vision and an understanding of larger artistic, social and cultural contexts.
