Partial Eclipse
Fabrics accrue layers of residual marks to create an interior nightscape. Seams, wrinkles, and folds transform into windows, bookshelves, and walls. Pools of flooding pigment become mountains and islands. My thesis work is centered around dyed and printed fabrics that describe the liquid space between interior and exterior worlds. Through an improvisational process of silkscreen printing, textures of one fabric surface are imprinted onto another, allowing chance and memory to converge. An aleatory arrangement of motifs offers a subconscious space where time is experienced not just as a linear progression, but also as a simultaneous feeling of past, present, and future. My hope for this work is to provide an experience of time and space that is layered and guided by chance.
