a "Process" Architecture
As the same ordering principles have inspired architectural design and musical composition for nearly 2000 years, the analysis of musical structuring within contemporary music, i.e. Process music should be able to generate architectural space. My thesis aims to extract a new set of design principles that can translate into new spatial conditions. Modern composers have sought non-traditional ways of structuring music through repetition while breaking away from traditional hierarchical systems in tonality and offering more variety in sound. In bringing these new design principles into architectural and visual space, my work seeks to explore spatial variety within repetitive modules and gradual shifts.
