Juana is a collection that tells the story of my heritage and culture as a 21st century Filipino. Juana is my imagined haciendera during the Spanish colonization of the 16th-19th century.
Juana is made out of 100% recycled and repurposed denim. I believe it is imperative that designers enter the industry with the goal of slowing it down. I chose denim because it is dynamic, versatile and absolutely stunning. I also chose it because of how much I believe it represents the spirit of the hard worker and dreamer in every Filipino. Through thoughtful choices in motifs, shapes, and manipulations I wish to show that there is beauty in labor and there is elegance density and more than anything, I wish to evoke the deep love I have for the country I so proudly come from.
