Mixed media work by Gabriela Rassi

Gabriela
Rassi

I make paintings from a variety of different materials ranging from acrylic, oil sticks, crayons, paper, acetate and spray paint on surfaces such as foam, canvas or paper. The object resolves from challenging my interaction with the materials, my determination to surprise myself, and find meaning. I often use a color, a word, an image I see or a memory as a starting point and by confronting them with drawings and brush marks the context evolves in unexpected ways, allowing me to look at and discover hidden parts of my own mind.

By leading the painting into some sort of visual dissonance, the work is open to the viewer's subjectivity, inviting them into reflection or conversation.
