I am a student in the Brown | RISD Dual Degree Program, concentrating in Cognitive Neuroscience (Sc.B.) at Brown University and majoring in Textile Design (B.F.A.) at Rhode Island School of Design. I hope to invest in projects and spaces that challenge norms and seek to push the boundaries of design and research. I believe the gaps between disparate fields, theories, and methods of making provide rich resources that may advance our knowledge of cooperation and innovation; my hope is to explore the cognitive implications of what we create, ultimately leveraging my background from both Brown and RISD to make small inroads on global problems.

This piece is a visual description of the “trace” of memory. An engram is a hypothetical change in neural tissue that is thought to provide a tangible basis for specific memories. The work was inspired by the confocal imaging of interconnecting tissues that I had seen as a research assistant at the Salk Institute for Biomedical Research in San Diego.

In the context of COVID, some of my thesis work at RISD involved developing a series of rendered textiles and animations. On a material level, these samples could not exist in real life, but on a structural level, the samples are viable for apparel, soft good, and architectural based applications.
