About
Featuring work by graduate students earning their degrees this year, RISD Grad Show 2023 highlights the creativity of students at all stages of the thesis process, from sketches and drafts to completed works. The show is presented both as an in-person exhibition at the Rhode Island Convention Center (open to the public May 25–June 3), and as a digital publication that showcases work by RISD grad students across 19 advanced degree programs.

Digital + Media places technology - as a creative medium and cultural-historical phenomenon - at the center of its MFA program. This year, eleven D+M students have work featured in the Grad Show, with each exploring distinct subject matter representing multidisciplinary research methodologies and a range of creative strategies that interrogate the social, psychological, and cultural consequences of ubiquitous or emerging technologies (digital or analog). Informed by the fields of art, media theory, cultural studies, and social sciences, D+M thesis projects take a variety of forms including experimental games, expanded cinema, performance, installation, sound, interactive and kinetic sculpture, speculative design, and more.
